The European Union has expanded its sanctions list, adding 15 individuals and one entity linked to the persecution, poisoning, and murder of Alexei Navalny.

Among those sanctioned is Russia’s Prosecutor General, Alexander Gutsan. The EU decision states directly that he is responsible for filing the motion to designate the Anti-Corruption Foundation as a “terrorist organization,” which led to the criminal prosecution and arrests of ACF supporters on charges of “financing terrorism.”

The sanctions list also includes Oleg Nefedov, a figure from the ACF’s Black Notebook, who took part in the decision to designate the ACF as a “terrorist organization.” Also listed are First Deputy Prosecutor General Anatoly Razinkin, prosecutors Marina Bobek and Ekaterina Ivannikova, Moscow City Court judge Natalia Konovalova, and Roman Plugin, head of the St. Petersburg Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry.

The EU also imposed sanctions on individuals involved in the poisoning of Alexei Navalny.
