💚 I am Online. A campaign for a free internet

9 February 2026#Campaigns

Putin’s government is escalating internet censorship in Russia.

Messaging apps and social platforms are being blocked or slowed down: messages don’t go through, photos won’t load, calls fail. This affects millions of people.

But this isn’t only about convenience.

Censorship is one of the key tools that keeps propaganda alive. When independent sources are blocked and everyday communication becomes unreliable, people are pushed into a controlled information space — where the state can dominate the narrative and hide the truth, including the truth about Russia’s war against Ukraine.

That’s why we’re launching the I am Online campaign — to defend a normal, open internet.

As part of this campaign, we are documenting how Russia’s censorship system works, naming those responsible, and pursuing concrete ways to stop it.

Our plan

We have prepared a sanctions list of the people responsible for tightening censorship — and will submit it to the EU, the US, and other countries.

✅ We have already added everyone involved in the censorship machine to our “Black Book”.

🔲 We will push major tech companies to help Russians bypass censorship and keep access to independent information.

🔲 We will call on Apple and Google to remove MAX — a state-backed messaging app — from their app stores.

🔲 We will file a lawsuit in a Russian court — because even under Russia’s own laws, there is no legal basis for mass censorship. The lawsuit will likely be rejected, but it will help us obtain official documentation showing how the authorities justify illegal restrictions.
