Apple Keeps Cooperating with Roskomnadzor—We’re Working to Change That

At the end of 2024, we reached out to one of Apple’s biggest investors, the Norwegian Pension Fund, urging them to take a stand against the company’s ongoing cooperation with Russian authorities. Norway invests only in companies that respect human rights, and as a major investor, its voice carries weight.
Apple has already admitted to complying with Russian government demands. In response to concerns from other organizations about corporate censorship in Russia, the company plainly stated: Yes, we follow all of the Russian government’s requirements because we consider them lawful.
We used this opportunity to send another letter to the Norwegians, reminding them of the situation. In the latter half of 2024, Apple removed nearly 150 VPN services from the App Store at the government’s request, along with content from multiple independent media outlets.
This crackdown directly benefits the Russian regime, which is waging an aggressive war and repressing its own citizens. By helping to tighten control over the flow of information, Apple is actively restricting access to independent sources and alternative viewpoints.
We hope the Ethics Committee and investors will get through to Apple—since the company refuses to listen to its own users.
