A year ago, we launched a campaign against United Russia. We investigated crimes committed by its members, scrutinized the party’s promises, published videos every day, and conducted our own polling.

The campaign’s TikTok account gained 850,000 followers, with our videos reaching more than 20 million viewers in Russia every month. Our investigations received more than 10 million views on YouTube, while the Smart Voting bot and our email newsletter reached around one million people.

And throughout that year, one thing was perfectly clear: United Russia is deeply unpopular.

Then, on Friday, the Central Election Commission announced the results: 58.21% voted for United Russia, giving the party 349 out of 450 seats in the State Duma.

Behind those impressive-looking numbers were three days of the dirtiest election in modern Russian history.

We know about ballot stuffing, rewritten vote counts, and relentless pressure on election observers. Official turnout suddenly reached 60% — the highest figure in recent State Duma elections.
