Australia Imposes New Sanctions on Putin’s Inner Circle

3 September 2025#ACF International

The Australian government announced new sanctions against supporters of Putin’s regime, timed specifically for Yulia Navalnaya’s visit and her meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong. These measures were prepared at ACF’s recommendation to underscore support for their work.

The sanctions target members of Putin’s closest circle and individuals featured in ACF investigations:

🔸  Yuri Borisov, involved in the Roscosmos embezzlement investigation

🔸 Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow

🔸 Oligarch Andrey Kozitsyn

🔸 Putin associate Ilgam Ragimov

🔸 Judges who ruled on political cases

The Australian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the sanctions are aimed at those who help Putin suppress civil society and carry out a criminal war against Ukraine.

At the meeting, Yulia Navalnaya reiterated that it is important to always remember: Putin is not Russia; he does not represent the country.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong called Yulia Navalnaya a “fearless voice of democracy in Russia” and met with her on the day the sanctions were announced.

Anthony Albanese later wrote that it was a great honor to meet Yulia Navalnaya and that her fight for democracy, freedom, and human rights is inspiring.
